HISAP SUA

the evil empire is impending on us... the shadows of the sun looms, while we, the little people are left helpless at the mercy of someone else's...

uninspired and worn out...

lately i have been feeling uninspired and worn out. i am sure some of you might have gotten the hint by my sparing blog entries and equally unimaginative ones whenever i do so.

during those uninspired moments whose concrete equivalent is that of a dark gorging valley, i seek for inspiration in long lost music albums and cds (cassettes?) i found two...

one was Hail to the Thief by Radiohead and the other U2's 1993 effort, Zooropa. ok maybe Hail to the Thief is not so ancient after all but if you havent been listening to it for more than 2 months that is a bloody long time. as for Zooropa, the year that was produced is self explanatory.

one thing both albums have in common is its use of electronic gadgets, weird sounds, and its randomness... well that's one would have thought on a first listen...

but that's the beauty i would guess.... with so much chaos, there is a pattern that a listeners would look out for. sometimes it can be a needle in a haystack exercise. sometimes it would be a eureka moment...

fortunately for me on both listens, the feelings belong to the latter category.

i have always believed that good albums, well-written songs sound better on the umpteenth listen. ageless, timeless and ultimately in pristine condition...

it is different though, when a song becomes nostalgic. because, being nostalgic dates the effort. one's emotions and thoughts time travel to immerse onself in the experience.

i shall give two polar opposites of an example.

nostalgic: Air Supply.

timeless: Hendrix.

how many musicians research Air Supply as a piece of groundbreaking music like they do with Hendrix?

like i've said in the beginning, lately i have been feeling uninspired and worn out. but it is inspiring to be able to make sense in something when there's so much randomness...
